--Interview Janja Jovičić - Ferhat Demir

At a young age, Janja Jovičić is already establishing herself as one of the most promising modern full-backs coming from Serbia. A consistent Serbia U19 national team player for two seasons, even competing with an older generation. She stands out with her strength, aggression, and tactical maturity. Her ability to perform on both flanks makes her a rare and highly valuable profile in modern football.

Who is Janja Jovičić – both as a footballer and as a person?

I have been playing football since I was 11 years old. I started my journey at FK Rad, continued at FK Milutinac, and I am currently a member of ŽFK TSC, where I have grown step by step through discipline and hard work. As a player, I would describe myself as responsible, competitive, and fully committed to the team, always focused on giving my maximum and improving every day.

As a person, I am calm and focused, someone who values stability and positive energy around me. I believe that balance and mental strength are just as important as what you show on the pitch.

You have been a consistent member of the Serbia U19 national team for two seasons, even competing with an older generation. What does that trust mean to you?

It means a lot to me because being trusted at that level is never accidental, it comes from consistent work, discipline, and commitment. Playing regularly for the national team, even alongside older players, gives me extra motivation to keep improving and proving that I deserve that place.

It also brings responsibility, because representing your country is something special and something you must respect every single day.

How has playing with and against older players influenced your development and mentality on the pitch?

It has had a very positive impact on me because I had to adapt quickly to a higher level of intensity and maturity. I learned a lot, not only about the game itself but also about professionalism, how to prepare, recover, and think during matches.

Those experiences helped me grow faster and develop a stronger mentality, which is essential for long-term success.

Modern football demands complete full-backs. How would you describe your playing style in today’s game?

I see myself as a modern full-back who is active in both phases of the game. I like to contribute offensively with forward runs, crosses, and supporting the attack, while in defense I rely on aggression, positioning, and discipline.

My goal is to be a player who can influence the game on both ends of the pitch and bring balance to the team.

You are known as a strong and aggressive defender, but also very active offensively. How do you balance those two aspects of your game?

As a full-back, you need to constantly move up and down the pitch, so managing energy and timing is very important. Over time, I learned when to go forward and when to stay disciplined in defense.

It’s all about understanding the rhythm of the game and making the right decisions in key moments.

One of your biggest advantages is versatility – you can play both on the right and left side. How important is that for your development and future career?

I believe versatility is a big advantage in modern football because it gives you more opportunities and makes you more useful to the team. Being able to play on both sides helps me understand the game from different angles and improve tactically.

At the same time, it challenges me to constantly adapt and develop new qualities.

If we analyzed your last performances, what would stand out the most in your game?

I think my attacking runs and crosses would stand out, as well as my aggressiveness and strength in defensive duels. I always try to bring intensity and energy into the game.

Consistency is something I value a lot, so my focus is on maintaining a high level in every match.

What are the key details you focus on in training to keep improving as a modern full-back?

In training, I focus a lot on mentality, pushing myself beyond my limits and stepping out of my comfort zone. I also work on one-on-one situations, positioning, and delivering quality crosses.

Details make the difference at higher levels, and that’s where I invest the most effort.

Football is becoming faster and more demanding every year. How do you maintain your physical and mental consistency?

Discipline and strong desire are the foundation of everything. I try to invest in myself every day, both physically and mentally, because consistency doesn’t come overnight.

Recovery, focus, and the right mindset are just as important as training itself.

Looking at your career so far, what moment has shaped you the most as a player?

I believe the most important moments are the difficult ones, especially when you are losing or facing challenges. Those situations show your true character and force you to decide whether you will grow or give up.

For me, those moments were always motivation to become stronger and more focused.

How important is it for you to work with a professional agency, and who is the best coach you’ve worked with so far?

It is very important to have a professional agency because football is not only about performance on the pitch, but also about making the right career decisions. I trust my manager Darko Maric and his vision, and I believe that together we are building my career step by step in the right direction.

I have also been fortunate to work with coach Fandjo Vajda, who taught me a lot about discipline, details, and professionalism. Every coach brings something different, but his influence has been very important for my development.

How do you see your next step? Do you feel ready for a move abroad, and which type of league attracts you the most?

I definitely see my next step abroad and I feel ready for that challenge. I want to test myself in a stronger environment and continue improving as a player.

The German league attracts me because of its discipline and structure, but I also follow other leagues, including Turkey, which is developing very fast and looks very interesting to me from a competitive perspective.

The Turkish women’s league is growing rapidly, while Western European leagues set high standards. How do you see these two football environments?

Western European leagues have a long tradition and very high standards, especially in terms of organization and intensity. At the same time, the Turkish league is growing quickly and becoming more competitive every season.

It is interesting to follow that development, and I believe both environments offer great opportunities for players who want to progress.

What is your view on the Women Footballers Association in Turkey and initiatives like Kristal Ayaklar?

I think initiatives like the Women Footballers Association in Turkey and Kristal Ayaklar are very important for the visibility and growth of women’s football. They give players recognition and motivation, which is essential for the development of the sport.

It’s clear that with projects like this, the Turkish league is moving in a very professional direction, and it’s something I follow with great interest.

Women’s football is growing globally, but there is still space for improvement. What do you think should be the next big step for the game?

The next big step should be better conditions for players, stronger media presence, and more investment in development systems. The quality is already there, but visibility will take the game to another level. I believe women’s football has a very bright future.
